I am looking at '95 f355 Belinetta with a service history. It has 16.5K miles with 15k service done in 12/03. This will be my first ferrari and it would be a dream come true if some of these issues were clarified. How would I be able to tell the condition of the clutch and should I be concerned with a couple of hair line cracks(looks like paint only, not a structure crack???) around the buttressess of the car. I have checked with the dealer and they are telling me that everything is fine with this car but... This will be a weekend ride(200-300 miles/summer) and what other things should I be concerned with? There are no visable signs of body damage. Your knowledge regarding this car will be appreciated greatly.

Were the timing belts changed during the recent service? If not, a big issue on a 9 year old car. The clutch should be OK at this mileage, but a test drive is in order. The cracks are probably just stress cracks in the paint as you surmised.

I do believe the timing belt was changed by Lake forest SC. I did test drive but having no experience with these cars other than 360, I couldn't really tell if it was driving correct(!!!). Far different from 360 and my current C4S, I might add. I spoke to LFSC and they serviced it @ 1K and at 16K but no record in between. However, they are telling me the car is in great condition both in and out... though they recommand an inspection. what do you all think? Thanks again..

Furthermore, should I purchase an extended warranty? I am a man whose got a champaign taste on a beer budget!!!! $3K for a one year warranty seems awfully high. What do u suggest?

I've dealt with LFSC in the past, and they are very reputable. If they did the major service, the timing belt issue should be on their records. Also, if they are offering to inspect the car, I'd trust them on that. Talk to Rick Mancuso or Greg Berner and mention my name, perhaps that will help. I'm in the area, and have dealt with them as well as Continental, before. Both are good dealerships.

As for the warranty, if the car passes inspection, I doubt that you'll have any problem that would justify spending the extra $3k.

After discovering that LFSC DID change the timing belt as well as adjust valve, replace cam seals and slew of other 15k services, there was no need for further assurance. So without an inspection, I did the deed and now I am proud to say I am one of you. Bill, I thank you very much for kind input and look forward to seeing you on the road someday...
