Well I went for a drive with my 82 Mondial when a Viper pulled up next to me.
She was cute so we pushed it..result? I won, but only because I don't think she was trying (smoked the tires quite a bit)
Then I heard it..thunk!
Slipped a tooth on my timing belt around 8K rpms, Number 5 intake valve went through my piston, bent 2 valves broke 1 and two valve seats...
Stay tuned for how much it's going to cost! more than the car is worth I suspect...live and learn.

Ohhh Nooooo!!! You have my utmost sympathy, I'm very sorry to hear your story. I'm wondering what my have contributed to the belt jumping. How many miles/years on the belts? I wonder if the tension was too light? Over time the belts do stretch just a tad though, and re-adjusting the tensioners to compensate is NOT to be done for any reason. So you were turning 8,000 revs huh? Pretty high.....what is the redline for your car?

I hope everything works out right for you with a minimum of damage.

OMG, what a bummer! Fix it yourself, but fix it! Good luck. (I know you said she was cute, but, was she worth it? They never are, imho)

Well I was SO stupid!!!
but no regrets, engine is almost done, it gave me an opportunity to basically remove the rear drivetrain and put a NEW one in, yeah that's right, it's an addiction. You start thinking, well I'll just fix what's broken next thing you know you're replacing just about everything.
I'll post some pics once It's ready to go back under the car, should be this week.
On the plus side, everything's new...the negative, I'm up to 12K spent, but again, everything's new down to CV boots.
I did the rebuild myself so I'm crossing my fingers that I didn't screw it up. I was able to considerably upgrade the engine though.
went with 10.5:1 compression instead of the 8:1, new rods etc.
Of course the heads were shot completely so I had them rebuilt with larger stainless steel valves, ported and polished. Should get a slight kick in the pants when I get it started.
more to come...
She was really hot but not worth that much

Sorry for the valve problems, but glad to hear the prancing horse can not be tamed!
