This depends on whether you have a USA car with the R1 R2 points or a Euro car with alternating points. The USA car has a microswitch on the cam cover to complete a circuit to R2 points retarding ignition at low RPM. In this case, you'll have a six-lobed distributor cam and an MSD will work. In the Euro car, you have a three-lobed cam so the points are both operating all the time. An MSD will not work with this, as it sees only one set of points.

I'm just working on that, converting an european dual point three lobe distributor to Pertronix MR-161, will post an update as soon as i have this right. My current problem is that the magnetic sleeve wont fit the three lobe cam, it looks quite like its made for the six lobe cam but Pertronix support replied that i have to install the sleeve with the green tape down so i'll give it another try.
After converting the distributor, next step is to exchange the dinoplex against a digital hyfire 6al and 30440 coil.

Update, the sleeve wont fit my 3 lobe cam, at the largest diameter the difference is approximately 1 mm. Anyone here who successfully installed a MR-161? Pertronix offered to fix the sleeve when i send in the distributor but i'm a bit reluctant to send the unit across the world and back.

I have been able to mount the sleeve using very thin copper plate (around 0,1 mm), worked great. Checked impulse quality and timing with a scope, also looks very good. Pertronix support has been helpful but in the end i would have expected a better build quality on the plastic sleeve, considering the price of the MR-161.
